The Psychological Disorders
The DSM-IV-TR (Diagnostic Manual) groups psychological disorders into broad categories (e.g., anxiety disorders), under which there are 2 or more diagnostic classifications (i.e., specific diagnoses). It is beyond the scope of this site to describe each disorder in detail or even to list every classification category. Included below, however, are many of the disorders seen most frequently by psychologists treating adults in outpatient settings.
Note. There are reasons that individuals seek psychotherapy and assessment for which there may not be a specific diagnostic category (for example, phase of life issues, relationship problems, and bereavement).
